At some point in time, perhaps even earlier this week, we’ve all had a “Case of the Mondays.” To make matters worse, sometimes it even extends into a Case of the Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and so on! With the stress of long hours at the office, the ‘to do’ list at home getting longer, and any number of other things mounting, it can be easy to slip into a slump and stay there. Add the recent change in weather and the fact that for most of us it is already dark before we’ve left the office, and you have yourself a recipe for all but giving up on everything but ice cream and sweatpants!
You don’t have to let the sweatpants win. You can make changes to your routine that help you rise up from those proverbial rainy days and let the sun shine again, no matter how early it actually sets. You may not have a magic wand to erase the stresses and ‘to dos,’ but you can take more control over how you handle them, and how equipped you are to handle them. Ready to get started? Good, let’s go!
It’s What’s on the Inside that Counts. When it comes to the way you look and feel, this couldn’t be more true. What you eat and drink has such a huge effect on every inch of you. And while busy days may make it seemingly impossible to eat right all the time, it’s important to remember it’s not an all-or-nothing. One easy, super important thing most of us should do is up our water intake. The benefits are felt and seen almost immediately across countless avenues for many, from less joint pain to a clearer complexion. Other small steps like making a handful of almonds your afternoon snack can help you feel full longer while offering your body the nutrients it needs.
Work Your Way Outward from There. While what goes into our bodies is most important, what goes onto them plays a big role in our appearance, confidence and emotional well-being as well. I like to take things one layer at a time and have found this has the best results for me. So what comes after what goes in? What goes on the skin, of course! First cleanser, then lotion, then perfume for me.
If I’m showering at the end of a long day, I choose a cleanser with a calming scent. The morning of what will be a long day? I choose an invigorating citrus or peppermint. I then follow up with lotion and perfume in a complementary scent to keep the calm or invigoration going while giving myself a bit of necessary pampering. Next comes sexy lingerie that’s appropriate for the day. If I’m headed to work or out to run errands I might opt for an Elegant Moments embroidered underwire bra and lace tanga shorts. If I’ll be lounging about the house, a comfy cami set works well.
Be Fabric and Cut Conscious. Before you plan the next step in your layering, think about what you will have to tackle that day. If you’ll be spending 8 or more hours at a desk, comfortable knits might make a better choice than fitted blazers and slacks. If the temperature will fluctuate quite a bit, grab a cardigan or jacket that you can easily add or remove. If your day will include a lot of driving, choose tops that allow you freedom of motion. If you’ll be doing a lot of walking but still need to maintain a professional appearance, 3 inch heels will be easier on your feet than a stiletto.
Take as much time as you can every day to treat yourself right, both physically and mentally. It truly is easier to handle all that life throws your way when you feel and look your best!
